This week, HMRC will start to contact people who may be eligible for the new Self-Employment Income Support Scheme.
If eligible, this scheme will allow for you to claim a taxable grant worth 80% of your trading profits up to a maximum of £7,500.
The online service will be available from 13 May 2020. If you are eligible, HMRC will tell you the date you can make your claim from. If your claim is approved, you will receive your payment within 6 working days.
Please see the Governments updated guidance on eligibility, how to make a claim and how the grants will be calculated.
If you need additional guidance or support when it comes to the alternative options available, please get in touch with your dedicated Client Partner.
Scams
An increasing amount of spam emails, calls and texts have been sent to client. HMRC have confirmed, that all eligible customers will be invited to claim through GOV.UK and that this is the only service they use. If someone gets in touch with you claiming to be from HMRC saying that financial help can be claimed or that a tax refund is owed, and asks you to click on a link or to give information such as your name, credit card or bank details, do not respond. It is a scam.
Suspicious emails claiming to be from HMRC should reported by sending them to phishing@hmrc.gov.uk. Texts should be sent to 60599.
