If you own one of the UK’s 2.67 million VAT-registered businesses, it’s highly likely you will have heard of Making Tax Digital (MTD) as it will affect you from next spring.
Owners of businesses that turn over more than £85,000 a year VAT-registration threshold will be the first to go through the government’s flagship scheme.
From 1 April 2019, VAT-registered businesses will need to submit digital reports to HMRC every 3 months as well as a year-end summary. That’s 5 times in 12 months.
You can either take this on yourself, using compliant software approved by the Revenue, or outsource it to our experts, who use Xero or QuickBooks to submit tax returns on your behalf.
All other businesses that turn over less than £85,000 will not be affected by MTD at this stage, although business owners can volunteer to submit digital accounts if they feel ready.
Small businesses and landlords with an income of more than £10,000 a year will eventually be required to use digital tools to report tax sometime in the coming years.
Making Tax Digital: intro to Xero
Dunkley’s are proud partners of Xero, which is the UK’s leading online accountancy software supplier and has been given the thumbs up from HMRC to provide MTD-approved software.
To help our clients make the smooth transition to digital accounts, our own Xero specialist Stephanie Gunn will be holding 2 introductory sessions to Xero this month.
On Thursday, 13 September, 2018, Stephanie will be hosting a morning session from 8.45am followed by an afternoon session from 3.15pm.
Making Tax Digital: intro to QuickBooks
We’re also platinum partners of QuickBooks, who have received the green light from the Revenue to provide MTD-compliant software in the form of QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop.
Our in-house QuickBooks experts Amber Vierke and Sam Preece will team up to provide 2 free seminars on Thursday, 27 September, 2018.
Sam and Amber will demonstrate the software and show off the benefits of using QuickBooks from 8.45am.
Dunkley’s digital double act then return with more helpful hints and tricks at 3.45pm.
